There is a pain that is difficult to put into words the loss of a child. When a child or grandchild is lost, the grief reaches across generations, touching mothers, fathers, grandparents, siblings, and everyone who loved that precious life.

697 Candles: A Miracle of Light was created from that understanding.

This special giving program was born from personal loss. The owner of 697 Candles knows firsthand the heartbreak of losing her first and only grandchild a beautiful granddaughter. Losing my granddaughter was a shock, and the pain was unbearable. Grief does not simply disappear with time. Some days are harder than others. Healing happens one day at a time, one breath at a time, and sometimes, one candle at a time.

A mother grieving the loss of her child needs compassion. A grandmother grieving the loss of her grandchild needs compassion, too. They may experience the same loss from different places in their hearts, but they share a love, a loss, and a bond that can never be replaced.

Through 697 Candles: A Miracle of Light, we want to remind grieving mothers and grandmothers that they are not alone.

With donations from people who believe in the power of compassion, we hand-pour candles with love and intention and send them to mothers and grandmothers who have experienced the devastating loss of a child or grandchild. These candles can be sent across the country, with the hope that one day our light will reach grieving families around the world.

For those who are able to participate, we also offer opportunities to join our online and in-person candle-making experiences at no cost. These gatherings are designed to create a safe and compassionate space where grief can be acknowledged, memories can be honored, stories can be shared, and healing can begin through connection and creativity.

Sometimes there are no words for grief. Sometimes we simply need a place to remember, create, cry, breathe, and be surrounded by people who understand.

Our candle-making experiences are about more than making candles. They are about pouring love into something beautiful while allowing ourselves to release some of the pain we carry.
